new engines

Ok heres the deal, i searched the forum but thereare no sufficient answers. On my old corona the engine will cost 3000 to be rebuilt so ive decided to upgrade to an old sr20de from the s13.

My question is what is needed to be done when installign a new engnie not designed for that car apart from engine mounts, all i can thing of is transmission mounts or somthing to support the tranny, a new drive shaft (is that what its called) possible a new diff although the stock one might hold up but may need a recondition. The car that im doing it on is rear wheel drive with a 2 litre 4 cylinder. the engine is pretty big as well so i expect the sr20 or similar small rwd engines will have plenty of space without much modification needed.

Id ask in the corona forum but there are not enough members with coronas.

I really wish I could tell you more but I have little experience with your car as well as foreign motors. Depending on the conversions or swaps that you're doing can make the difference. For example to do an LT1 swap in my fiero, you have to purchase and adapter plate from my motor to my transmission due to each having different bolt patterns. If you using the tranny that came with the motor this could probably be avoided. You might need a different sized drive shaft or different/modify the crossmember. Again on the Fiero, there were several other things such as a smaller starter motor, redo the exhaust, etc... Also, if the car is fuel injected you might have to rewire the compatible computer through the existing wire harness which could be a HUGE pain. Hopefully someone will answer your questions, but these could be some of the bigger situations you could run into. On the other hand it could be just a simple bolt up motor swap...

or a 3s-gte

for the sr20 you will need to make engine and tranny mounts/crossmember?, not sure if your corona is carburated but the sr20 will need the ecu and a bunch of wires/harnes. the shift linkage for the new tranny.

the 3sgt3 is a turbo motor and the 4agze is supercharged and there is a good chance that either of these could bolt up to your tranny and if your lucky maybe even the engine mounts, at least with one of these options you wont need to worry about shift linkage.

but if you are dead set on getting the sr20 in there good luck that would be pertty original, i have never seen an silvia powered corona, actually i have never seen a corona powered corona.

hmm good idea ill look at the toyota engines, ill go have a look at how much they cost now.

edit: hmm the 4agze is fwd and too small a bit expensive too. and the 3sgte is 2200 bucks ! out of my range, i needed somthign about 1.8 - 2.5 litre range thats rwd thats why the sr20de is kewl, plus the old supra engines apart from being thirsty are unreliable so they are out of the question. hmm... yeah if you dont know the corona is really a rear wheel variant of the camry but before the camry was made, a bit like an oversized rwd corolla sedan.

Hmm this is gonnabe expensive, i could get a half cut of a new subaru legacy engine for 3000 but yeah, i might just stick with reconditioning the existing engine, its high in miles but still pulls hard, after its reconditioned i might even go for light pressure turbocharging if its compression is suitible.
