5th Gen Rear Deck Removal

I've seen so many thread and sites about removing the rear deck for 6th's and more advanced gens but none for the 5th. Anyone have any instructions on how to do so? I'm trying to install 5x7's in the rear because I got them unexpectedly from a friend. Thanks in advance.

Re: 5th Gen Rear Deck Removal

if its a coupe good luck fitting that size speaker. i was able to put in some 6*9 in mine but had to cut massive holes in the back. to take it off first u have to remove the light with the 2 nuts that are under(acessable from the trunk. do not over tighten them they break easely). once u get that off u have to push the white little plugs out(E on the image) from under. they look weird, hard to describe but if u find them push real hard on them till they go all teh way thru. after that u need to take that black circle thing thats around ur lock off. if u look from under ull figure out how to take it off and take that long black trim thing thats infront of the deck off.then just pull the rear deck off.

Re: 5th Gen Rear Deck Removal

i too have considered 6x9's in my rear deck. besides cutting the sheet metal did you have to modify the speaker grills?

now that i look at it, that picture doesn't even have the speaker grills or the holes that the speakers sit in. it seems that the coupes have a different rear deck than the sedan. which car do you have?

here is what a coupe rear deck looks like
