Is there really no upgrade?

Hi All,
I have posted requests for info on upgrading the pathetic driving lights that came factory with our trucks, but with little or no response. Do I really have to go to an aftermarket bumper or spoiler to be able to mount decent fogs up front? Is there no available bulb upgrade (preferably in yellow)?
I cant figure out why they put these light on the truck at all - they do nothing.

Thanks for any advice....

The reason for daytime driving lights is not so you can see better, but so other traffic can see you better.

A kind of 'crumple' prevention, you might say..........

You can buy yellow bulbs for them, you can get any color your little heart desiers as long at they make them ( i dont suggest red). You can even get LED's like I have. If u want fog lights, U gotta buy fog lights.... The DRL's arent gonna do what u want them to if u want foglights.

Not the daytime driving lights....... the POS driving lights in the front valance.
They seem to have only one purpose - for show. They illuminate nothing. The pattern is terrible and if you try and aim them any higher, they wash out less than 10 feet from the front of the truck.

I have a french import 911S. When restored, I installed the factory H-4 headlights and used the the French spec bulbs. They are standard 100w H-4 bulbs, but with a yellow cover as required. Being that the cover is removeable (and being a rarely use my brights) I think I am going to try and retro fit the cover on to the high beam bulbs.

My reason for all of this is that I ski nearly every weekend. I have yet to find any light that works better than a yellow fog in a heavy snow storm (rain and fog too in my opinion). I really like the clean lines of what used to known as a cal style truck - nice wheels, all trim/badges removed, nice grill. I could very easily drill some holes and add some nice Hella pr PIAA lighs, but that sort of goes contrary to what I like. I am trying to have both function and looks.

Re: Is there really no upgrade?

Do yellow fogs work the best in the snow? I've been trying to find something good.

My kc daylights are just too freaking bright. Sometimes I leave my yellow smiley-face covers on when I drive in the snow and it is a bit better. They're so bright they shine right through the covers. If I could get a semi-circle cover to cover up the top half of those huge lights they'd be more effective, but that's a ghetto-fabrication type of project better reserved for another time.

Re: Is there really no upgrade?

I think that PIAA sells something that fits close to that. I saw a 99' the other day with aftermarket lights in there. They were small and rectangle and frigg'in bright. I agree, I am kicking myself that I paid $145 Canadian for the stock fog light kit for my truck only to have a pretty pathetic output from them. My $80 BOSCH Pilot's had better intensity than these do.
If I find anything I'll let you know.

I would be interested in this as well. Almost all fog lights that I know of are yellow. I just put factory fog lights on my 99 and was supprised that they were clear.

My stock ones went out quick and I ended up getting them both knocked out due to my lowering the truck. I got another pair and they lasted all of about a month, and then they started acting up. IMO, the stock fog lamps are crap and I can't believe I paid money for them, twice! I just put some street scene grilles over the holes and it looks better for my truck anyways.
