Re: Programming keyless entry fob
Hi,
Here is a program I found that works on my 2000 suburban. 1. Get in you car (have all the remotes that you want programmed with you at this time, even if you have one that works already because this procedure will reset that one as well). close the door 2 While holding down the unlock button on the driver side door: A. put the key in the ignition and turn to the on position then to the off position then again to the on postion then to the off position (don't be too slow when you do this, probably all four motions within 5 seconds). do not remove key from ignition yet. B. Immediatley release the unlock button. You should hear the lock system cycle within a few seconds. This indicates that you are in program mode. If you don't hear the locks cycle go back to step 2 C.Take your first remote and hold the lock and unlock buttons at the same time for about 15-20 seconds (most instructions say seven seconds) until you hear the locks cycle. Your first remote is now programmed. D. Repeat step C for all other remotes at this time 3. Once you have programmed all your remotes turn the ignition key to the on position, this exits programming mode. |

Re: Programming keyless entry fob
No, I tried it myself.
The 98's have a different looking remote so I'm guessing that it has some type of different procedure. HELP GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!!!!!!! |

Re: Programming keyless entry fob
Found instructions for my 98 in the Tahoe section.
Totally painless and took all of 30 seconds to do two remotes. What a wonderful site!!!!!!!!!!! Yet another painful trip to the dealer has been prevented. |

Re: Programming keyless entry fob
99-01:
Transmitter Programming Base Model: If they key is in the ON position during the programming procedure, the horn chirp will be disabled, if the key is in the OFF position, the horn chirp will be enabled. The horn will chirp when the lock button is pressed two times. When reprogramming the remote control door lock reciever, All transmitters must be programmed at this time in order for the transmitters to operate the vehicle. Transmitters not programed at this time will not work and the procedure will have to be redone with all the transmitters. 1. Ground pin 4 to pin 8 of the data link connector (DLC). The receiver will respond by locking and unlocking the doors, and activating the liftgate window release (if equipped) within 2 seconds. 2. Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously on the first transmitter to be programmed until the locks cycle (approximately 10 seconds). 3. Repeat step 2 for up to four total transmitters to be programmed (if available). The receiver will respond by locking and unlocking the doors and activating the liftgate window release (if equipped) within 2 seconds. 4. Remove the ground applied to the DLC. 5. Lock and unlock the doors in order to verify the transmitter operation. 6. Activate the rear window release in order to verify the transmitter operation. Method for Higher End models: Have each of the transmitters that you intend to program ready. This vehicle will allow you to program a maximum of four transmitters programmed at one time. When reprogramming the remote control door lock reciever, All transmitters must be programmed at this time in order for the transmitters to operate the vehicle. Transmitters not programed at this time will not work and the procedure will have to be redone with all the transmitters. Turn the ignition to the RUN position, then back to the OFF position. This will disarm the theft-deterrent system. Remove the RADIO fuse (Fuse 17). Turn the ignition from the OFF position to the RUN position three times quickly, within five seconds. The vehicle will respond by locking the doors, unlocking the driver's doors and releasing the tailgate or panel doors. The transmitter is now ready to match to the vehicle. Press and hold the LOCK (1) and UNLOCK (2) buttons on the first transmitter for 15 seconds. The vehicle will respond as in step 3. Repeat step 4 for the remaining transmitters. Replace the RADIO fuse. Check that all transmitters work by pressing their buttons. |

Re: Programming keyless entry fob
I have a 2000 Z71 Tahoe OLD BODY style. My remote part is 16245100-29. Do I need to use the 4/8 pin ground method or the high end method of removing radio fuse? Thanks for your time.

Re: Programming keyless entry fob
If you just changed the battery and it stopped working...
After you put a new battery in the remote, press and hold LOCK and UNLOCK on the remote for 7 seconds next to the vehicle to re-synchronize the remote with the receiver.
