Need HELP ASAP - Fuel Rail Recall '95

I have a 95 and its getting ready to hit 100k - so its tune up time. Now, I'm not a mechanic at all but I love to read up on my car b/c I like it so much.
Now, this past summer after work my car gushed out all the fuel - got it towed to a local mechanic - they fixed the fuel rail - THEN, I got the recall notice - FINALLY got reimbursed for the fix from this past summer.
Now, since I'm going in for my tune-up (100k) my mechanic (the one I trust) said that the previous mechanic just put in a FACTORY FUEL RAIL - so, basically it could catch on fire again and its starting to mis-fire and backfire.
Now, I know I gotta get all my plugs changed out and whatnot but he is insisting that the previous mechanic basically just installed another factory fuel rail and it could mess up on me i.e. catch fire.
Now, my question is do I

A) go back to this guy (the original - btw, its GRISMER) and tell them to bill GM or...
B) should I call / go to a GM Dealer to have them fix it?

I need some input as quickly as possible and if anyone has some numbers (GM's) that would prove useful I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance...
~ Nate

The fuel rail may look the same but the material is different. But who replaced it a dealer or a shop if a dealer, I would say your OK.

i never actually looked at my original rail, but my new one is steel. i believe the originals are plastic, so they should not look the same... maybe someone who saw theirs pre-recall can confirm but thats my impression.

also, my fuel pressure regulator is in a little cup to hold it, i think the originals were different?

also i have a 1997 if that changed between 95-97.

On the original fuel rail, the FPR sat on the top right of the engine (when looking from the front of the car), on the replacement fuel rail, the FPR is in a "container" of some kind on the bottom right of the engine (when looking from the front of the car). The original rail is also a black piece of plastic, the replacement is a shiney stainless steel rail.

I just had mine fixed via the recall the day before Thanksgiving. I had previously had it replaced by a local mechanic and am awaiting the reimbursement. The reimbursment and the recall are separate issues - my local GM dealer could care less about the reimbursement.

Get the recall done by a dealer - he will install the new part which is stainless. When the local mechanic fixed it 2 years ago, he just put in the standard replacement which is nylon based and that part degardes over time. You will also avoid any potential legal mess if you do have any fuel supply issues going forward *after* a non-GM shop performed the recall....

Re: Need HELP ASAP - Fuel Rail Recall '95

FIXED!!!! I called GM last night and they had said that when they checked my VIN it was still open.

It was a different story when I spoke with a previous rep. concerning my reimbursement.

Anyway, took to a dealer this morning and got it back this afternoon...and its all FIXED.

Thanks for the input guys...really appreciate all the great feedback.
