Fuel Problems?

I have a 1991 4.0 Renegade with 138k. Just bought it and it did not run. Would idle and stall. Got it running and drove it for a couple of days now I'm having the same problem? I've replaced the fuel filter. It had a complete tune up at 118k. Any help? Fuel pump? Also, is the fuel pump in the tank?

Re: Fuel Problems?

I'd go simple first -- try some HEET or Drigas, it may be the fuel, or you might have some gunk in the tank itself.

After that I'd think about the pump; maybe check the air filter too. I take it by "got it running" you've done a full tune up on it?

a couple reasons

First, the fuel pump is in the tank...that sux trust me I wish it was on the frame. Also there is a fuel strainer next to the pump which gets can get clogged...I had to change it in mine. Its only 7 dollars for the part.

To check and see if the pump is working check your injectors... just unscrew the cap to the release value and push it in and have someone turn the key to see if gas sprays. If not check the line to the injectors, this should spray gas when the key is on. If not, its the pump or the strainer.
