Exhaust System

I think that I need a new exhaust system. I have a 90 Integra Ls. By Exhaust system I mean Header, CAT, Downpipe, Resonator, Muffler. What should I look into? How much money should I be looking to spend? I not really looking for performance. I really just want a car that doesn't sound like shit.

Re: Exhaust System

If you are not looking for performace then I would reccomend stock componets. They will fit the best and will keep the car quiet.

Congrats on making moderator. Thanks for the info. Should I buy the stock parts from Acura or do you have a website in mind?

Why thankyou

The only componets that I would feel the need to replace are the muffler and possibly the resonator. The CAT can be replaced by any aftermarket high flow cat, it will be cheaper than the OEM unit and if you have stock componets for the rest of the exhaust system then it will make no difference in the sound level of the exhaust. However if you want to you can just get the OEM unit, but be prepared to pay $570+ for the converter. The piping, including the resonator and muffler should cost around $400 or so. You could get an aftermarket system for htis price, but if you don't like to hear the exhaust then you are going to want to stu\ick with the OEM unit.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Exhaust System

I went to Midas and I found out that I just have two holes in the piping near the muffler. Should I just go to an exhaust shop and have them weld on new pipes? The piping was welded before so I can't get a bolt on muffler. Also, how do those cheap mufflers on Ebay sound with the silencers on them? I'm thinking of getting a muffler on EBAy with a silencer and going to a shop for the piping. Oh and I found out that my CAT is still good. What do you think?

Re: Exhaust System

To be honest with you I have never heard the Ebay mufflers, so I can't really give an opinion on them. If the CAT is still good then I would not replace it. For the piping yes you could go to a shop and have the piping done there, probably be a little cheaper too.

With the hi flow resonators, you can't pass inspection though right? Which EBAY muffler do you have? Does it have a silencer? Remember I really just want my car not to sound like crap but I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for the oem muffler

Resonators and Cats are too different things. As for cat's a street-legel high flow cat like Random Technology is a street legel 3-way cat. It will pass inspection. If you get a high flow race cat it will not. If you are replacing the cat, stick with a good street legel high flow 3 way cat like random technologys. It will also cost MUCH less than OEM ($230 vs $600-700).

As for a resonator, think glasspack. Resonators are used to quiet the exhuast and to tune the exhaust note. Through the use of resonators, youy can tune the exhaust sound to your liking, deeping the sound, etc. This has no effect on emissions, unlike a cat.

I had a custom exhuast sytem done. I a High flow random tech street legel cat (which I got because my oem one was shot), 2 1/4"custom mandrel bent piping, an 18" resonator and a good qaulity universal muffler. I passed emissions fine, and most people compliment the sound and say it sounds nice and throaty, plus it's not as loud as a lot of them.

Re: Exhaust System

Well not to copy your style or anything but can you tell me which kind of muffler you have. Like I said before I'm not trying to get an expensive muffler. I've seen some ebay mufflers for like 10 - 20 dollars with silencers on them. Can you explain to me how you can tune a resonator?

Re: Exhaust System

You can't tune it...like dial in or something...he means that by adding/switching resonators you can alter the tone of your exhaust

Do bigger resonators give you a deeper tone?
