Unhappy I think im over the evo 7

i think i am over the evo 7. I was 100% planning on getting one, but I am always finding reasons not to now. on the question about 0-60 and 1/4 mile link, I am hearing about how the 0-60 time is in the 5's, not the 4's. that is closer to a u.s. wrx. so I am sure subaru is going to beat that by far since the sti is alot better than the wrx. I mean, what could i do better with the evo7 than the wrx or sti when/if it comes? why should I get the evo7 over it? I am hearing about problems with modding it and alot of other stuff. now I know the 7 is better than the 6 but, still. I used to love it but now it just seems like it is fading. can anyone help??? pleez.

evo 7 will SMOKE the WRX... c'mon now dude.. don't lose hope. the STI and the EVO 7 will be a good one to compare, but the EVO 7 definitely tops the WRX...

My friend, Paul, has a WRX and it is fast, but I know for sure it won't compete well with the EVO 7!

You have to see things in my eyes

I currently live in Japan. I easily see BIG difference in the Subaru WRX STI and the Mitsubishi EVOLUTION VII. First of all the WRX STI is not pretty at all. Second, The Evo has outperformed the WRX STI in every way over here, dealing with mod's, engine reliability, and handling (Especially with the EVO VII). Most japanese wont even consider buying Subaru due to being unreliable after 3-4 years.

Living over here in Japan has MADE me a evo VII lover! I can't wait to get in my EVO VII. I just bought a 2002, and am just waiting for the delivery.

yup, my friend has a Subaru Impreza and he took it back to the dealer to fix it, Subaru won't even bother with him.

If you dont' like the Evo, dont' get it, find something else. Its YOUR choice. Were just here to share opinions and knowledge.

littledagger, i dont know what your talkin about subaru's being unreliable after 4 years, they last for alot longer than that. last time i heard, mitsu engines were the unreliable ones. just my opinion though.

??? First of all, mitsubishi has some of the most reliable cars out there. We have had a galant for who knows how long and the only problem is it eats oil, probably a crack or hole in the gasket which is common on lots of engines who have many miles, but its still going. My dad is a EE and analyzes everything. He hates fast and the furious as many do, but says the new lancer evo looks nice, because he trusts mitsubishi (the galant used to be his car). Hes the kind of guy who researches everything he buys and a car is obviously important due to it's large price tag. He checked around and heard only good things about its relability and service from our dealership. So it's proven its relability and its service in our town at least. Also, where have you "heard" this? And then why do you go and say it's just your opinion? well did you just have an opinion to think the subaru is more reliable or did you actually hear it? I'm not attacking you, just things dont add up, and you're post failed to contribute to the thread because it was biased and lacked evidence. Next time be more prepared

Thumbs up now

with that out of the way, i'd like to restate myself:

My dad trusts noone. In a corporate sense that is. He hates the guys down at mazda where he got his miata. He researched the Celica when he was close to getting it and did not get it because he heard bad things about the car, and when he went to the dealership the guy was an asshole. But he trusts mitsubishi. More than any other company i know. They gave him good service (fixed minor problems for free) and the car has lasted for a very good amount of time. So I definently think mitsubishi would be a very reliable and decent engine stock or modified. Don't get me wrong the WRX is nice and i haven't heard any problems with their engines cause i haven't really looked into it, but I think the evo will be better in the long run due to cost, aftermarket, and relability. Cost because alot of the car is already "done". you dont need to buy a nice brake kit b/c brembo already supplied them. Also the body styling is already beautiful in contrast to the WRX which doesn't really look very nice (according to me and the masses). And mistubishi is a great company so you wont have problems there.

my two pennies :coolguy:

OH NO, THE 7 ONLY GETS TO 60 IN 5secs!!!, WHAT ARE WE GONNA DO.
Do you know how hard you have to launch a car to get that sorta time, its not something you are going to be doing all the time and the 7 is still faster than a wrx and it has better handling.

Compared to the STI, the evo should have more meaningful performance as it has greater low-end torque which would translate to faster progress everytime in the real world where you are not reaching 7000RPMs.

Also, everywhere I read, the handling of the evo is much better than the STI. Cars are not just for going fast in a straightline.

The first time I drove my evo7, I had a great big grin from weaving in and out of corners, roundabouts while overtaking cars. I doubt if any other cars in the real world could have given me that much enjoyment.

Evo7: Price about US$30K.
Big grin on face: Priceless.

In defense, WRX is not that ugly.

everyone i know who has a mitsubishi has a serious p.o.s. maybe its just theyre unlucky buy everyone i know who has one its unreliable as hell. examples:

95 galant. ~65,000 miles and on its 3rd transmission rebuild, and already leaking fluid again
95 galant. ~90,000 miles and 2 transmission rebuilds
94 galant. ~80,000 miles and 2 blown head gaskets
95 eclipse gsx. ~50,000 miles and 1 full engine rebuild and 1 fixed boost leak. now has another boost leak.
96 eclipse gst. ? miles and 1 blown head gasket and now a boost leak.

and as for sti vs evo, lets look at facts. last 6 wrc seasons, evo won 2 maufacturers titles and sti won 4. if the evo has such better power delivery and handling shouldnt it be the other way around?

now dont flame me for being an evo hater just cuz i drive a subaru, i love evo's and hope to own one someday. i do agree they look a bazillion times better than the wrx, but i still think the sti is a better performer.

Well the car i previously mentioned was used as a family car and thus endured many miles but no accidents, harsh use, or racing. From some of the posts I've seen in the racing forums I'm inclined to presume that those galant's owners were your friends and from the looks of the burnouts, use of nitrous, and heavy racing I can see why such service was required ;-) If they weren't subjected to these conditions let me know but also the Evo is meant as a sports car and thus would last longer under more "sporty" conditions. Also, our transmission is an automatic and I'm sure there is varying in the lifespan between mitsubishi's auto and manual trans. Also if they were raced it's possible that the upgrades were one dimensional, in other words they blew all their money on the turbo kit but didn't think to replace the clutch with a stronger one to withstand that HP, same with flywheel and transmission overall. So please clarify :-) and I am by no means bashing subaru, I've heard only great things and the look isn't that bad but I think the evo is a little more well rounded and better looking in a general sense.
