more factory alarm problems (boschman???)

hello,
the starter on my 94 golf just went (I had it tested at the local NAPA and they said that there was an internal short) and upon replacing it, the car still would not start => turn key = nothing. After searching online and finding this forum, I determined that the factory alarm system may have blown when the starter shorted and so I disconnected both the 10 pin and the 6 pin connectors (of the alarm box - underneath the dash, above the fuse/relay box) and jumpered pins #5 and #6 of the 6 pin connecter with a piece of #10 wire and 2 spade lugs. Starting problem solved only now I can't lock the car! Does anyone have a pinout for the rest of the pins or know if there is something else I can jumper to allow me to lock the doors? The driver side lock is stuck in the up (unlocked) position and cannot be pushed down (locked) manually. thanks.

Have you checked fuse #21 for the door locks? It sounds like there is a problem with the driver's lock mechanism as you should be able to push the lock button manually. Is it the vacuum soleniod that is holding it up or is it jammed? Do you ever hear the vacuum pump run?
