Olds Dealer Can't Find Problem

Since my "rant" yesterday, my Aurora has gone back to the shop (MAROONE CHEVROLET / OLDS, PEMBROKE PINES, FLA.) yet again. It cranks but won't turn over....not even a hiccup or burp. The dealership service manager just called to tell me that there is spark and fuel pressure, there are no trouble codes, and the fuel pump is working, but will not turn over. Service manager says, "I don't know what is wrong with this car...".

I may yet learn to hate this car........unless someone out there can deliver some kind of clue or explanation......

Stupid questions here, but have you or they checked the fuel filter? battery (you might see if the car will jump)? alternator? starter?

If the fuel and ignition systems are OK, and the engine can crank, then
a compression test has to be done.

We have to get some terminology straight..is this a no spin/no crank (you turn the key and the starter does not engage) or is this a engine spins over and will not start concern (starter engages, but engine will not fire)
So they say you have spark and fuel pressure and the engine will not start..have they checked compression or for injector pulse.
did they do a Diagnostic Circuit Check to determine that all the modules were communicating?

Re: Olds Dealer Can't Find Problem

Sorry if I wasn't clearer. The starter is turning the engine - quite vigorously I might add - so the battery is fine. The engine is not 'firing'. As stated (or at least this is what the SM told me), they put the computer on the car and got NO trouble codes. This is a General Motors automobile retailer with a huge, modern, service department full of "GM certified technicians" and a million dollars' worth of diagnostic equipment, and they can't find the problem. I'm sure they eventually will, but at what cost to me?

On some cars, engines are equiped with some kind of a sensor in the motor that checks for a certain oil pressure to protect the engine and prevent it from starting if there is no oil in it (in case you change the oil and forget to put some in the motor...Safty feature.)

You need 4 things to make an engine run..air, fuel, spark and compression...if you have 2 they need to check for the other 2.
I know Maroone Chevy..they are owned by Autonation..offered me a job..turned them down

It's Fixed!!!!

...And it was just as I suspected - the computer....or as the invoice calls it, the "J6360 PCM/VCM MODULE", which is the same one Maroone replaced two years ago. I suspected the computer when the cooling fans starting running even when the engine was cold, the engine revved to 2500 rpm by itself, and the speedometer quit working....all before she finally died completely.

Got the car back this morning and again (the best Christmas present yet) NO CHARGE!! Maroone has all my service business from now on.

Even better, the stupid 'delayed charging' which started after the alternator was replaced last month has not happened again. I LOVE my Aurora.......

Re: Olds Dealer Can't Find Problem

I may have celebrated too early. The charge (or not-charging) indicator came on again shortly after starting. It went out as it always does about 10 minutes later. I just hope this doesn't aggravate the computer/ECM module.
