whice would be better and cheaper to do, i read an artical on a website that had the instructions on doing a 4 speed auto trans swap and i would like to know whats involved with the 5 speed manual swap for my 280zxt

im assuming you have a 3-speed automatic then??? the 4 speed w/ overdrive automatic will probably be alot easier but the 5-speed swap would benefit you the most. im guessing that auto trans swap would just include swapping the tranny and maybe the driveshaft...but the manual swap you will have to swap in a clutch pedal assembly, master and slave cylinders, clutch, flywheel, shifter, etc...

Re: 4 speed auto. or 5 speed manual

Do you have big plans for the Z? As in drag racing? If you do, I'd go with the auto. But other wise, I'd go with the standard since it's cheaper and easier to fix, I would say so anyways.

Re: 4 speed auto. or 5 speed manual

yeah, like neo said, if you plan on drag racing it, then get the auto. otherwise, get the manual if you don't mind dealing with the clutch pedal, shifter, master cylinder and the other things like that.

Re: 4 speed auto. or 5 speed manual

umm, change it, lol. nah, seriously, i don't know about the fuel filter, i would guess with lots of pulling, first undo the clamps and then pull the fuel line on each side of the fuel filter and the put the new one in there. but i don't know where it is as on a 280zx.

if you want a fun street car, i would go with the manual.

he said fuel pump freak...your gonna have to drop the fuel tank on your 280 i am pretty sure, then just drill out the size hole you need and drop it in there. im betting it would be alot easier and probably cheaper to get a aftermarket walbro fuel pump.
