passanger power window problem
Heres my dilema,my passanger power window in my 82 firebird goes down a quarter of the way and then makes weird grinding noise as i hold the switch down but the window just stays a quarter of the way down.
When i push the switch to raise the window it goes up but makes that same noise once it reaches the top.Do you think something is stuck or does that noise mean the motor is not functioning anymore?Thank you for your time,Rich. |

Your correct sir it could be window motor but from what im reading it sounds like the window regulator. Its noth that the regulator is broken its just that its not matching up with the motor causing the griding sound as the regulator tryed to get its teeth in the motor. If you have time take off door panel and inspect operation. If the noise comes from your motor or the motor is damaged you can get a new replacement real cheap off ebay!

Re: passanger power window problem
The regulator is a strong sterdy piece of medal shaped like a scythe. That should be fine i think your motor just finally gave way and the teething just dosent match up, the best way is to pop the panel off and see whats going on underneath it all

Is there a way to roll the window down manually? If I have to take out the regulator the window motor has to come out also?cuz if i have to get all crazy like that i might as well get both of them new so i dont have to f#%@ with them later.

Theres no way to rolling it down manually, what I did is propped up a bunch of small pieces of wood on both sides to hold the window up while i worked on my motor thats the best solution. to get your motor out of ur 82 you might have to drill the rivets out like I did and replace them with nuts and bolts. |

thanks everyone for your advice. What I am going to do now is look for a new motor and regulator and then going and busting my knuckles on that damn door.

When you buy the window motor, make sure you get the bolt kit for it. The window is riveted unless someone already did the bolt kit. Good luck...I hate doing window motors.
