coolant leak

wow! im excited that i found this forum for my 88!

first off, thanks in advance to all the responses...

ive got a 88' delta 88. its leaking coolant from the block plug. it's the block plug that has the small tubes hooked some kind of sensor. it appears theres a small hole under the sensor.

is there something that goes in this hole?

what is this sensor?

the haynes manual and dealer only sees standard plugs.

Well, no need to start a new thread.

I have a coolant leak on my 1994 Olds 88 Royale.

The top pand bottom radiator hoses look and feel fine. But on the passenger side at the bottom of the engine , I can faintly see coolant leaking. Its emptying the coolant reserve, every 3-4 days. I just bought this car a few days ago. I've own 2 other Olds 88s both 85's though. I thought my 94 88 would be a safe bet. The car is in great condition. Needs paint and a new passenger outside mirror. Mirror is on its way. I just replaced the TPS (throttle position sensor). I also noticed a oil pan covered in oil. All that being said, the car drives like its new. it has 112k miles on it.

My question is what component could be leaking coolant in this location?

Where are the themostat and water pump on this car?

Since you are 94 I probably should throw down something.

Here is where the leak could be. Note the water pump is a MULTI HOUR JOB on the L27 cars since you have to remove the motor mount and lift the engine up. Just FYI.

Not the first nor third photos are where the leak are occuring. If you follow the second photo toward the cabin from where you circled about 12inches the leak is occuring there.

I am guessing it is the water pump gasket.

Sorry, it was the third picture 2 inches to the left of your circle. It was leaking from the bypass hose.

Becaue I have no tools garage or friends. It was a $75 job.

The little hole under the water pump is a weep hole to let you know when the seal on the internal bearing has failed and coolant is getting into the bearing.

Damn car is leaking coolant again.

This time it appears MAJOR.

I don't want to sell this car. Its leaking coolant from the timming belt's cover gasket? The shop said it would be a a few thousand to fix! Or I could use some engine block sealant form a autoparts store? Anyone try this and did it work?

Reading the instructions on the can, It says I have to flush the coolant, treat the engine with block sealant, flush again, then fill up with coolant?

Any help is greatly needed. Thanks!
