Gas Gauge/Sqeaky Belt

Hey Guys,

Pretty new to the jeep thing. I bought a 98 Sahara a few months ago, and fell in love with it. Ive been cpnverted to a jeep man for life!
But anyways, after having it for a couple months, ive run into a couple small problems. First of all, the gas gauge is acting real strange. I will fill up the tank, and the gauge will only read 3/4 of a tank. Ill drive about 50 miles, and the guage will be down to 1/4 of a tank. Ill go fill it up, and it will take 4 pr 5 gallons to fill, and the problem just starts again. Any idead what compnent in the fuel system that i might need to replace?

Also, my belt always sqeaks for about 4 seconds everytime i start the jeeo when its cold. This only really happens when it is cold. The belt was replaced right before i bought it. Sound like a tensioner problem?

There is a Jun 98 recall on the sending unit. It's a safety recall, so it may not be a fix...never know.

Re: Gas Gauge/Sqeaky Belt

My gas gauge recently started doing something similar (ranges from full to 1/4, and doesn't drop smoothly) -- '98 Sahara ~96k miles. I've ignored it so far.

I've also had a squeeky belt on cold mornings & when wet -- tried new belt, tensioned, & tried to isolate source, all with no real change. Since everything else is working fine, and the belt isn't wearing unusually, I'm taking a "wait and see" approach and checking it routinely.

Anyone have ideas?
