HELP RE: broken into

Can anyone help? 2 weeks my car got broken into, and they ripped my cd player out. There were bare wires exposed, and on my way home, I guess some live wires touched and now everythings messed up. My ABS light stays on now, and so do my interior lights, I have to take the fuse out just so my battery wont go dead. when I put the fuse back in, the lnt. lights go on (with the switch off) and also it keeps dinging.. like the keys are in the ignition but theyre not. For this other fuse, it keeps blowing out whenever I put a new one in, (all my stereo wires are not touching) , If anyone can help thx alot thx

It is your chime module that has failed. When the wires shorted out, there is a soldered fuse/resistor inside the unit that burnt up. I had the same thing happen when I dropped a penny in my cigarette lighter.

Remove the lower dash panel on the drivers side underneath the steering column. On the left side of the steering column roughly above your left knee when seated you will see a orange/pinkish/brown coloured module which is the chime module. It is a little bit of a pain to get at as there are 3 or 4 screws that hold it in so you have to remove them by feel. When I replaced mine, I only put two of the screws back in and it held fine. If you don't see what I'm talking about, put the fuse back in and follow the chime noise. I went to the wrecker and got a module for $5. Dealer wanted $125 Canadian. If you are handy with a soldering iron and can get the proper fuse for it, you could probably fix it. I just went the route of the wrecker when they said $5 for the part.

HI, Im just wondering , dosent AutoPac cover that. I mean I have a $200 deductable and they should fix it for me, right?

Autopac is usually pretty good at covering the little things, but sometimes you have to convince them. Did you take it to autopac yet? If you haven't yet, but are planning on it, make sure to mention to them that the module is cooked because of the theft. You must be in good ol' Manitoba? How is "Hell" by the way...

I'm not familiar with Autopac here in Ontario, but assuming it is an aftermarket warranty, do not tell them it happened in conjunction with the theft of your radio. Aftermarket companies will do anything to not cover a claim and if they find out the failure was caused by anything other than a defect, expect it to be denied. If it is a $200 deductible, find a wrecker...the modules are a dime a dozen and it is not all that difficult to change. You can even unplug the connectors from the old one and just plug in the replacement for the time being and let it rest on the kickplate until you find the time to install it properly.

That answers my chime question, BUT, why does the other fuse keep blowing when I put it in, ? That means when I put my cd player back in it wont work caue of that fuse?> There is probably a short somewhere but how do i find it??

Im nor sure which fuse, I think its the one for the stereo. I seperated all the bare wires and the fuse still blows, any ideas? thx
