Auto climate control / headlight problem

As a follow up to the headlight problem I had with them staying on...I noticed if I use only the twilight sentinel to control the headlights going on and off....they go on and off fine. It's when I use the headlight swith on the door panel that they'll stay on even after the car's off. Can I assume that switch on the door panel's bad ?
Now a new problem....the Auto button on the climate control won't go on...when I press it the Econ setting goes on automatically. The auto display will show the temperature which is set and the heat gets maintained by that setting....however....the auto button won't light up.Any suggestions ? Thanks in advance for all the [email protected] 1993 Park Ave

ok, first of all, if you turn on the headlights with the headlight switch on the door, then they will stay on until the you hit the switch to turn them off.. These cars don't have day time running lights. so they are like every other car out there. hit the switch to turn on and hit the switch to turn off.. Simple so it sounds like you really don't have an issue there.. for economy issue, have your AC recharged more than likely your low on refrigerant. That or the climate control ECM is screwed.. hope that helps..

Tom - Does your temperature display blink for a few minutes when you first start the car? If so, there is a trouble code that you can retrieve from the HVAC computer through the control panel.

The system is far too complicated for its own good.... If you plan on tackling this on your own, I strongly suggest getting the factory service manaul. The one dealing with the HVAC and extensive trouble shooting is in the Electrical Systems Manaul - which is different than the normal service manual.

I got both off ebay recently.

Re: Auto climate control / headlight problem

Thank you both for responding....Park Ave Chrome....in response to the headlight issue....I realize how the headlight switch is SUPPOSED to work....the problem is when you turn it off....it doesn't go off....although the LED on the switch indicates it going off. This only seems to happen at night .The way I've found to work around it is by only using the twilight sentinel and not the headlight switch to control the lights.So.....would this mean the headlight on/off switch on the door panel is NG . Thanks, Tom

Curtis I hear what you're saying about the climate control and yes it flashes at start up.I was rummaging around a junkyard today and found the whole unit that they'll sell me for $ 35 with no gaurantee or $50 with...sounds like a bargain to me....assuming this one works.Must be huge money at a dealer...I'm guessing like 600 ? Thanks, Tom
