Shifting time for z34

I have a 98 z34 and since it was new the thing takes a long time (seems long) time to shift from reverse to drive. If I back out of my drive way and someone is coming and I shift into drive and gas it, it studders and bangs into gear.I have to let off the gas and wait for the shift.
My old cars/trucks shift faster and without slipping or banging.
Is this common on these?
The dealer claimed from day one that it takes longer to complete the shift on these newer cars then older Turbo 350's trans.I have never driven another Monte Carlo to see if it does it.

My 98 Monte LS doesn't do what you described at all, but our generation of monte carlo's are known to have transmission problems. Especially when it comes to shifting into and out of reverse. I've read many posts about shifters getting stuck in park or reverse. If you have the $$$ then I would suggest getting your trasmission looked at.
