What's the most popular retrofit import engine in your opinion?

Well, I'd like to see what kind of input we see on this topic ,specifically what do you guys think are the most popular import engines to retrofit into anything. this could be a fun and enlightening discussion. Tom

Would be more interesting if you asked which is best and why. Which is more popular is a statistic not an opinion.

The problem is finding those statistics. If I could go to www.ImportRetrofitStatistics.com I probably would have. The thing i'm trying to understand is what specific engines are popular so I can determine why based on those engine's specs and parts availability and attempt a future project, I have access to salvage auctions. And I kind of figured this may be a fun topic to banter with. Tom

Re: What's the most popular retrofit import engine in your opinion?

The engines that are most commonly swapped around, besides the many honda engines would be:

1. SR20DET
2. 13BTT (and in a Miata... wow...)
3. 3S-GTE (for all the non turbo MR2's and Celicas, and even some Trueno's)

I dont often hear people swapping 4G63's into anything other than cars that just lost their 4G63.

But I dont much spend time with the DSM community so I wouldnt know...

Re: What's the most popular retrofit import engine in your opinion?

i would say sr20det, 13b (13btt could be either 13b-re or 13b-rew from the 93-up rx7's, most common are n/a or single turbo from 80's rx7s), b16 hybrids, and if you live outside the us, then sbc.

You are more than correct. I'm not sure the above two understood "retrofit".

B series, can be put into pretty much every car Honda made. It's probably one of the longest running and most popular swaps.

Talking What about the engine in my ride

I guess I will be biased as well and go with the EG33. You know that those engines are, stroked, bored out, stroked, heightened compression forced induced and modified in mostly everything else but the SVX in most cases as of yet. The EG33 is used in dune buggies and even airplanes. Not to mention people have put these engines in second generation Legacy. There was even a supercharged EG33 put into a legacy, and this was before any supercharger kit ever came out for the SVX.
