Buying a modded Talon?

Hey there, im new to this forum and also new to the world of the Eagle Talon, but it has rescently sparked my interest. I have found and 1995 Talon Tsi AWd for sale, which has had some extenseive work done. I wasnt able to get a full list of the mods since hte owner wasnt around, but i do know that it has a new engine with 14k on it, and it is supposedly pumping over 300 hp, which tells me that i have to be careful with this purchase since the engine is very far from stock and i dont knwo what condition it is in. naturally i am going to look into it more extensivley when the owner returns and i can talk with him and see under the hood. they are asking a negotiable 6500 for it. my question is would it be wise to buy a car that has already been modified so heavily, of safer to start more from scratch. also, should this car be running a stock tranny/driveline/etc, should i be concerned? i beleive the car itself has something like 80-85K on it.

Re: Buying a modded Talon?

Many people prefer to buy a close to stock, or stock car. But if you're going to mod it anyway, what's the point? I was looking for something close to stock. Looking back, I kind of wish I had bought something lightly modded--exhaust, bov, IC piping, maybe a 14b.

Have the car checked out by a mechanic. If shifting is grinding or otherwise malfunctioning, steer clear of this car. Otherwise, all you can do is a general mechanical inspection and a compression test.

Get a mod list--people often overexaggerate their hp ratings, and if we have a comprehensive mod list, we will be able to let you know if he is BSing you or not.

Re: Re: Buying a modded Talon?

Hey there, thanks for the reply. Once i get a full mod list i will let you know. some of the mods that i know of for sure are an 18g turbo (never really heard of this till i started reading up on talons, if someone could elaborate?brand?psi?hp?) and a 3" turbo back exhaust and im assuming any other back up mods for the 18g. Inside the car there is an evident Apexi boost controller, although it may be an airflow converter, i didnt get a close enough look. it also has Eibach springs, and struts which were a brand i cant remember. this is the vauge description i can give based on the few mods listed on the for-sale sign and by inspecting the car. i should have a more detailed list very soon.

well i guess its up to you

if you know what you are doin and can drive the car and look at the parts and make sure there all workin well if u dont feel like moddin the car yourself you could buy it if it runs right and looks good but if u would rather do all the work yourself then i would buy one non mod'd or u could buy it and make him give u a 30 day return pollocy(or how ever u spell it)and if u are able to take it apart make sure everything looks good and if it dont put it back together and give it back

just a suggestion tho
