2k taco tranny squeak
i have a 2000 taco. 60k+ miles. ive been hearin a squeak/rattle in which i thought was coming from the bed.sounds like a loose bolt with a washer rattling.but now this sound has gotten much louder and i realize its come from the tranny. going down hill in 2nd gear about 25mph w/ foot off the gas sounds like like the tranny is gonna drop..when i push in the clutch the noise completely disappears.anyone else experiencing or have experienced this problem?..its annoying as hell to listen to...

Re: 2k taco tranny squeak
A bad throw out bearing would make a noise when the clutch is pushed in, not when released. Check the tightness of the driveshaft flange bolts. If they are tight check the universal joints for loosness. I assume your drive shaft has a center bearing, if it has a lube fitting has it been lubricated? Check the transmission mounts for loosness or wear.

i've heard them make noise with the clutch all the way out as well, and if the noise goe's away when the clutch is depressed, then the drive lines still moving, providing the rigs rolling at that time.
just a thought. Rick, Ore |

Re: 2k taco tranny squeak
A throw out bearing should not be operating when the clutch pedal is released. They are designed to operate only when the clutch pedal is depressed. If they run all the time they will self destruct. If it does make a noise when the pedal is released the clutch pedal needs adjustment or the clutch has a problem or is worn out. In any case it would *not* cease making a noise when depressing the clutch pedal. See this link for throw out bearing information.
http://www.carcarecouncil.org/Manual..._bearing.shtml On the original problem the noise is there when in second gear going down hill with foot off the gas. The condition you have is engine braking is placing a load on the drive train, when the clutch is depressed the vehicle is coasting and the drive train free wheels with no load so the noise stops. I would carefully check the drive shaft and it's related parts for wear, loose parts or lack of lubrication. If your truck has been lifted without considering U joing angles the U joints will wear out prematurely. FWIW, Clifton |
