you talking about a bass setting? like treble/bass settings? going into the negative is like reducing the bass band, same as adjusting your equalizer in winamp, although not as sophisticated, as it only has two knobs/settings for the whole range.. if you turn your bass setting all the way to negative it's kinda like listening to a crystal radio... there is no loud thump, unless the track is going into some high to mid ranges. just go out to your car with a heavy bass CD and play with your knobs and find out what settings you like..
