Has MTV ruined the tuner rep for good?

At the moment, I'm watching this 240sx episode of "pimp my ride", and I must say it doesn't look all too optimistic. The fact that the kid loves need for speed underground already hits some warning signals in my mind, and when he was asked what his total goal for the car was, he said, "I just wanna make it pretty, make all the rich kids...." Yes, we all know he wants to make rich kids jealous. Nice motive for a perfectly effective platform. NOT. So it seems as though the design for the build is a copy of the 240 that he "designed" on NFS:U. Yet another good decision. I think i'm feeling another NOT on that one as well.

Now, as i'm typing this particular paragraph, I'm watching the actual design segment where the WCC guys completely destroy engineering.
First of all.....THREE XBOXS????? Cars aren't meant to be rolling game stations! And the fact that the kid wants to impress rich kids with the car not excel himself in automotive engineering just tells people that every guy who mods a 240 has the same motives. Let's face it, since the car is a 240, it can't look all THAT bad, even with a lot of tacky show features tacked on. (by the way, I really can't stand non-functional hood scoops). But this kind of guy choosing this kind of car for, in my opinion, the wrong reasons, is by far the most discouraging thing to me in my pursuit of automobiles.

Don't get me wrong, I don't wanna step on show car guys' feet, 'cuz everyone likes a car that looks attractive. But all show and no go is insanely stupid and makes the car worthless as a vehicle, and as American parts companies keep toying with Japanese styling, kids just keep getting caught up in the glam instead of the real art that is under the hood. Just seeing what everyone else thinks about this.

Re: Has MTV ruined the tuner rep for good?

NFS is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo fucking retarded!!!!!

Yo you got to get a wing, some stickas, a BK(easeir ta say then body kit), some twene fow inch spihnas, some neons, vinals, and make it a mad-wylde paint skeme yo!!!!!! Then maabe well giv u some rep points and u can race dog!

Then you have the 230mph in a drag race on the street.WTFFFFFFFFF??????????????

Then you have racing on crowded highways.WTFFFFFFFFFFFF?

Then you have the circuit races.WTFFFFFFFF?

Can you believe I had some kid say the driving was more realistic on NFS than it was on GT3? No you can't and you shouldn't. I wouldn't believe it, but I was there.

Then there was the fact that a friggin golf or a neon could keep up with the skyline.WTFFFFFFFf?

Then there was FWDs drifting.WTFFFFFFFFFFF?

FUCK Need for Speed underground. I can't believe they wasted thier time putting the 240 on there. And PMR is only going to make this worse. The kid should be handed a free subsription to SCC and a $200 gift certificate to BAM with only ceritan books avaliable for him to buy. Then slap him!

Who the fuck cares, we have gone over the damn subject for NINE FUCKING PAGES in the other thread!!!!! I like NFSU, it's a fun game, I liked F&F and 2F2F, they we're cool movies, that doesn't make me a ricer, I like fast sleepers, but that doesn't mean I want my car to look like a rusted out piece of shit like all PMR cars start out like.

"The kid should be handed a free subsription to SCC... "

Hey now. I actually consider Sport Compact Car to be the best overall "tuner" magazine out there, way better than super street, import tuner, or modified. And, while i liked NFSU for what it was, and while I was kind of getting excited about NFSU2, it slowly dawned on me that this game is very unrealistic. And I got tired of it. Soooooo.....it's all green for Gran Turismo 4 baby! Guaranteed to beat every major racing game of the year! Anyways, thanks for the feedback and glad to see that i'm not alone in feeling that the American media is really starting to ruin some perfectly good hobbies for those who take them seriously.
