'99 Passat v6 won't start

I am having an intermittent, now bordering on permanent inability to start my Passat. When I turn the key, the warning lihts don't come on and the engine won't turn over. If I keep trying, the IC may light up and the car then starts, but that's getting more sparse! When I tried it today, the IC lit up then went dead before I could even try to start the car. I have to get the car to the dealer tomorrow for a recall, so I was hoping that there may be a "limp home" mode as I believe this is an issue between the key and the ignition module. Any suggestions?

have you checked all you fuses,
I had a similar problem with mine, but mine lights would come on. It was a fuse that ran the lights, doors, windows and also controlled the starter relay. Also some more information about when it won't start and what other functions won't work when you have this problem.
