Re: WRX repairs!

Thanks for moving this Neutrino

WRX's are unreliable?
That's news to me, they're pretty solid in my experience, unless you're a seriously bad driver?
With hard shifting, the clutch tends to wear quicker, perhaps wanting replacement around 30,000 miles, but otherwise they're reliable in most every other area.

To find one in Canada, did you try your local classifieds or http://www.autotrader.ca/

Yeah i checked the auto trader! The best deal I could find was a 2002 wrx with 105,000 km for 18,900 plus tax... is that a good deal? Also do u know how much it would cost for a new transmission?

Re: WRX repairs!

How would I know if it's a good deal, you're giving the price in CA$'s.
Seems like high mileage for that model year though.

Why are you obsessed with a new transmission?

Get an auto if you're that worried.

Or, take the time to learn the characteristics of whatever car you own, and drive it appropriately.

Re: WRX repairs!

Yeah, all the SCCA guys in my region are still on their original transmission as far as I know. And there are quite a few of them, all of whom race their WRXs at least twice a month.

I have heard from certain "others" worries of Sub. trannies. Stop listening to your past and the bull c. media, the WRX has a very decent tranny and if properly maintained and launched with care you should have no worries. Sounds like your ex bud couldn't shift his wrx out of a a giant open paper bag. As far as Clutches are a normal wear item on any manual transmission the question is when and how long they will last depending on skill of driver, maintenance and proper feel and attention
to engagement of gear shifts.

Re: WRX repairs!

I'd recommend a new clutch flywheel setup with some mods. I dont recommend Fidanza. Their flywheel was junk. I burned up an Exedy clutch but that was my fault, i got one that couldnt hold the power i putting out. I went with a Spec clutch/flywheel combo and it was the best grand i ever spent.
