Re: what else can i do to my 93 Z

well, if you want power with decent mileage you are looking at combustion efficiency. i would get an LT4 conversion package, take the heads have them ported, polished, backcut valves installed. then thermal coat the combustion chamber, exhaust port, and valve faces. throw in some aftermarket roller rocker arms. The hot cam is prooven hp, but to me, its pretty darn big, especially if you want to get decent gas mileage, id choose a sub .5in lift compcams xtream energy cam for the LT1. If you are willing to tear into your engine, and you have money to spend, get a set of quality flat top pistons, and fit them with gapless rings, thermal coat the piston crown, and put anti friction coatings on the rings and piston skirt. Use as thin of a head gasket as you can without passing a 10.5 :1 compression unless you want to risk detonation. throw on the LT4 intake and bolt up the rest of your running gear. a 1000cfm throttle body would be a nice touch here.

also, if you arent afraid of doing engine internals, and having your crank modified, buy a set of sportsman connecting rods with quad 4 size journals, this will require you to cut down the journals to fit, and while youre at it, you can offset grind them for added displacement.

next would come headers to compliment the engine mods flowing into your aftermarket exhaust.

to offset the penalty of your 18in rims (which i think you said you had in another post) i would trade out to a 3.73 rear end or if you are concerned with gas mileage stick to a 3.42 rear.

while the engine is opened up have a crank scraper made, and put on an oil control oil pan.

you didnt mention if the car was manual or automatic so ill guess on this.

Manual is pretty strait forward, spend the money on a good clutch, know how to shift.

Automatic, its time for a rebuild. Get a higher stall converter, around 2400-2800 is good for the street so long as its a lockup, invest in a quality aftermarket performance rebuild kit, including a shift improover kit. bolt it all up and throw it in.

power is nothing without control, something to remember is that suspension upgrades also make you faster, Hotchkiss sells complete suspention kits that are actually quite a good deal. you should check them out.

thats pretty much all that i can think of off the top of my head. but hey, its 4:39 in the morning, i just wrote a 10 page paper on mass media, i dont think i did too bad

oh and almost forgot, get a powerful ignition system, no such thing as overkill in this department, more power allows you to run wider gaps, and get more complete burn, get a high output coil, and a capasitive discharge, multispark ignition box.

Re: what else can i do to my 93 Z

alright, now were gettin somewhar.

In this case, without tearing into the engine, but needing performance, the tranny gets the attention. Same advice as listed above, performance converter, performance rebuild, and shift kit. I had the 700R4 in my 89 IROC rebuilt, with a 2600rpm stall converter with kevlar lockup clutch, corvette first to second servo, B&M trans kit with all the clutches and bands included, and a stage two shift kit. The difference is like night and day. she used to be a handful in first on hard launches, now if i floor it shell light em up in first, second, and give em a good scrub in third. And if i back off the throttle enough on launch to not break, and then floor it, shes a rocket, still chirps em in second and third though. Id say thats where to spend the smart money if you dont want to cut up the engine. also this should allow you to get better gas mileage because shorter shifts mean less tranny slippage which means better gas mileage.

I still suggest headers, for the price, the performance value is well worth it. and will allow you to get the most out of your CAI.

and of course, if you want lots of speed, with little perminant effect, you can always put your baby on the bottle. depending on the shape of your car, you can install a plate system up to 100hp safley, although i usually suggest 50-75hp instead. This will give you a pretty sizeable boost in power for very little modification work, and will retain your stock gas mileage when not in use.

so i guess a summary would be....

-Tranny
-Nitrous
-Rear gears
-Suspension
-High Power Ignition
-headers

as far as the boost from a 52mm throttle body and spacer, maybe 10hp. and im being generous.
