TBI or TBI?

How can I tell if my 5.0L 1989 Camaro RS has a TBI or TPI engine.

Re: TBI or TBI?

the TBI engines look like carburated ones. it will have a big round air cleaner on it. and will have a normal looking intake manifold. the 8th number of the VIN will be an E as well.

The TPI engines have intakes that look like spiders. a big silver spider with an air snorkle that goes forward and splits into two air filters in front of the radiator. the VIN numbers for these are F, and 8.

Seeing as your car is an RS, i think its safe to say its an E code TBI 305.

Re: TBI or TBI?

Thanks, I asked this in some other forum and I got some ultra-technical response that went over my head.

lol, it would surprise the hell out of me if this guy owns a B4C option cop car. they made hardly any of those.
but if you really want to get technical, another RS that had TPI was supposed to be a '92 anniversary, collectors edition RS. but it was a prototype car that had a 350TPI w/ 6-speed manual, 3.42 rear axel w/ posi, 4 wheel discs and 1LE suspension. Ran a 13.5 in the quater and was said that it would have been the best all-around camaro ever built, IF it was built lol. btw there were only 2 of those...

Re: TBI or TBI?

you have MPFI...Multi Port Fuel Injection. There's no such thing as a TPI V6, in a camaro at least.
