remove ignition tumbler

Hello, I have a 1995 Jeep Cherokee "Country" and am having problems with the ignition. It starts, but when I release the key to the normal operating position, it kills the engine. If I prevent the key from returning to it's resting position, it stays running.

I want to remove the tumbler and key to see if it needs replacing, but I don't know how. Can anyone help me? Thanks....

If it is the same type of ingnition switch as the 89, it is lower down on the steering colum and is activated by a rod leading down from the key cylinder. The switch it self down the colum is adjustable, there are slots and should be adjusted before you tighten it up.

Did you change the ignitiom switch itself the one at the bottom of steering column. If you did , did you adjust it before connecting it up? Dale [email protected]
