Unhappy Engine Stalling at idle

My car is a 1995 Eagle Talon ESi with a 2.0 liter engine and 5 speed manual transmission. It has 112,000 miles on it and has always ran exceptionally well. When I drove it home from work the other day it was fine. (30 miles) When I started it about an hour later to go somewhere the engine immediately stalled on start-up. It did this three more times and the only way to keep it running at idle was to increase the engine speed with the accelerator pedal. I drove it approximately 5 miles at speeds of from 35-45mph. It stalled 2 more times as I stopped at stop signs. I then parked it with the engine running, at which point it ran smoothly and fine just as it always has. For the remainder of my trip home, again 5-7 miles, it ran fine.
The next day I started it, at which time it ran and idled normally. Within driving it approximately 4 miles however it stalled when I had to suddenly slow down for a vehicle turning in front of me. I have now parked it and am afraid to drive it.
1. Where is the fuel filter located?
2. Any suggestions as to what the problem might be or where I
should start?

Re: Engine Stalling at idle

im surprised how many people are experiencing this problem with DSM's...i love em but i dont understand why they end up always having idling/stalling problems. does it idle fine when its in neutral but not when its in gear? b/c there could be something wrong with your trans thats making to big of a load for your engine

Re: Engine Stalling at idle

i just checked my air filter, it was black, dirtyer than i've ever seen in my entire life. it's a k&n filter thats in the stock box, and i'm not even sure if i can clean it its soo bad. soaking it in the spray right now, and maybe this is the problem. i guess if you sufficate an engine it would stall in theroy, and higher rmps means its sucking the air faster, so it doesn't stall. this Could make sence in theroy.

i'll post my results

update:

it seems better now. it doesn't stall on idle, but gets close. has i rev in nutral, the lights dim first then get brighter. so i'm thinking its a fryed alternator. i did install my system the day before this all happend so i bet i fryed the alternator.

Re: Engine Stalling at idle

i bet your alternator is just not powerful enough to power your system. does it do it if your stereo and amps are turned off? if it is your system putting too much load on the alternator. you probably should get one rated for more amps then stock to be able to power your system

update**************** and fix

problem was NOT alternator, or anything to do with my system.

i took the air filter, and the BOV just fell out of its hose. i was amazed. the filter was very very dirty, so i cleaned it up. tightened all the clamps on the hoses for the intake and bov

keep in mind my car is all stock

now problem is fixed. it was a huge boost leak.

Re: Engine Stalling at idle

if your headlights are dimming when your bass hits, your alternator is being overpowerd, and you need a bass compasitor. or an extra battery

Re: Engine Stalling at idle

My 93 Laser rs has a problem that i havent daignosed yet. When I bought the car the kid told me " It's just the MAS"...well two MAS's later the car still stalls out and jerks unless im giving it constant gas. I cleaned out the trottle body and put a bottle of STP fuel injector cleaner in, but still nothing. The car has all new vacum hoses and belts, so I know nothings broken of loose. My alt makes a skweeking noise because the kid took off the heat shields..im swaping the alt on thursday. I just drove the car from Syracuse, NY to Cleveland, OH yesturday..gotta make another trip on friday
