Long tube vs Short tube

I've found a set of long tube headers for my 94. Do these really make that much more of a difference? I know they are an improvement but how much? How much torque or horsepower can be lost or gained from this mod?

Re: Long tube vs Short tube

I was actually looking to do my exhaust after christmas from the headers back. I was thinking long tube because manufacturer claims are up to 20hp, while with most shorts it is 10-15. I also heard that the difference in sound between shorts and longtubes is night and day.

Re: Long tube vs Short tube

long-tubes = boatloads of torque, and the benefit only increases with more power mods. i run long-tubes, and i love 'em. when i downshift into low gear and floor it it nails me to the seat, and it's got a 3.08 gear =)

How much more hp and torque can I expect to gain? I presently have chrome BBK shorties. Will there be a noticeable difference? Im looking at spending $400 bucks. I don't mind spending the cash but I don't want 5hp for my touble.

Re: Long tube vs Short tube

From what I heard there is a huge difference from stock to long tubes. However, im not sure the difference from shorts to longs. It will probally be 5 (maybe alil more hp) and like 8-10ish torque. If anything you'll notice it will be the sound.

I personally will not waste my time doing headers unless there LT even on a bone stock 302. As far as the loss of torque from lack of backpressure that people say happens, well I have never expirenced that but actually quite the polar opposite.

The sound and tone your car alone will make form LT is worth the extra cost and pita factor IMO. But I think you will definetly have some seat of the pants feeling from the switch.

As far as the PITA factor of install I would say it's not that bad just need to have some patience.

Just read it, article is a little misleading look at the two dyno charts.

What about a stock 281? lol. Im thinking after I get some money that I wanted to do exhaust from long tubes on. Are you saying this is not a good idea? or it is as long as i go LT?

With a 4.6 you don't have a choice cause I think only BBK makes equi-distant shorties for the 4.6 and there not as good, as the good old 5.0 equi-shorties due to no room.

LT are your only option over stock truly worth exercising on the 4.6.
