Passenger seat backrest caddywhompus

The passenger backrest reclines unevenly. The right side of the backrest is far lower than the left. How does one know and how to fix the cable.

Jeffreybforme was asking the all the right questions then the sender quit answering.

Talk about pins and needles!

Thanks in advance anyone

First you must remove the seat.

Then you must find the side of the seat that is not moving because the cable does not engage into the drive gear in the drive. Cut out about 1/2 inch of the cable sheething (will make the cable longer) then slide about a 3-4 inch piece of 3/8" fuel line over the cable and tighten down at both ends with hose clamps. Use silicone so that the fuel line slides easily over the cable sheeth.

Hope this helps.

Re: Passenger seat backrest caddywhompus

My drivers seat in a '90 525i had the same problem. both sides moved but they were not in the same place. So, I found the motor that works the backrest and removed the screws that hold the cable in at one end. I removed the cable from the motor, then moved the seat with the motor to match the side I disconnected. Then I put the cable back in and the screws and now it works just fine.(I was able to figure out which motor by feeling the cables while the seat was moving to find which motor works the backrest.
