Re: Wetsanding???

Wetsanding involves water and sanding, as the name suggests. Either you can dip the sand paper in the water, or you can run water over the entire vehicle and sand. You do not have to sand in circles.

I hold the object I´m sanding over a water-bowl and sand it by making circular motion and dipping the abrasive in the water frequently.

Re: Wetsanding???

I'd always thought that wetsanding was something to do with wetdreaming. Maybe I'm wrong.

Re: Wetsanding???

I use a spray bottle and some sandpaper spraying the surface constantly.

Re: Re: Wetsanding???

I place the model under running water while sanding it first with P800 Grit then 2000 Grit.

When working on 1:1 I've wet color sanded using 600grit, then moving up to 1500 from there, with excellent results.

Add a little dishwashing detergent, 5 drops per quart/litre. This will help keep the sandpaper clean and lessen the chance of the debris you are removing from causing other scratches. - Mark

Apples and oranges.

In most cases wetsanding with 3200 can be too rough on my model finish.

I usually used 1000 grit first to remove all the mold lines etc. But now with P800 its easier to remove all the mold lines and then move on to 2000 grit. I haven't found any higher grits around here yet. Ive been dying to find 4000 grits, etc.

BINGO! as that is exactly how I do it. I also have an old tupperware rectangluar "bowl" for this and only this.

Go to your LHS. Detail Master has 12000.

They carry a polishing cloth that is labelled "12,000", but that number does NOT correlate to the numbers you find on 3M or suitable wet-n-dry sand paper...which is confusing and strange.
