Rattling sound from wheel arch area. 92 Prelude!

Hey,

for the past few months ive been experiencing a rattling sound, sounds metalic on my passenger front wheel. It happens every time i get a bump on the road, and it also happens on the driver side wheel. The 92 lude has lowering springs and koni suspension (quite hard) and 17" rims, car is quite low, but sound isnt the sound you would hear when a tyre hits the wheel arch its more metalic than that.

I really want to get this fixed now, what could it be?

im thinking the brake callipers perhaps? brake discs or the lowering springs.

please help me out here! am ashamed of driving the car with this terrible noise everytime theres a bump in the road!

no suggestions to what it might be - although the bump in the road thing suggests suspension, or some component of it.

however if the sound is truly metalic - as in metal on metal - nothing beats getting down low with a flash light and having a really good look for any "fresh metal" - everything else should be quite darkened by road grime, so if you are truly hearing two metal things rubbing, the visual indication should be quite obvious as in shavings or shiny metal surfaces somewhere - while your down there have someone bounce the front end of the car, and see if you can see anything binding, or perhaps better pinpoint the sound. probably not the answer you're looking for and a pretty obvious one at that, but still take a look around. grab at everything see if you can make anything move by hand that shouldn't be able to move by hand pressure alone.

best of luck.

Re: Rattling sound from wheel arch area. 92 Prelude!

I had the loose caliper problem on my CRX - it made the exact sound you're describing. It rattled everytime I'd hit a bump - once in a while I'd hit a bump that would cause the loose caliper to lock the pads, making the right front tire lock up and pulling the car hard to the right. Nearly killed myself on the freeway a few times because of that.

Make sure that all your anti-rattle clips are installed on your brake pads. there should be 3 i think?
