swaping in a 454 bbc

I am probably going to be swaping a 454 into my 77 chevy k10...it has a 400 sb in it right now but has been giving me so many problems....blow by, loss of compression...and i think think the block might even be cracked because of white smoke out of the pipes. My question is will I be able to just swap in the 454 without any fear of trashing the tranny...I have a th350 w/np 203 t-case. I have read abunch of threads saying that you need to beef up the th350 for people that have 600hp big blocks. But, I am not looking to drag my truck, I just figure if im gunna get another motor I might as well go with a big motor that is gunna sound mean. All I plan on doing is just boring out the block to get whatever lip is there and then just go with a basically stock piston, new gaskets and headers. Will this pretty much stock 454 be alright against my new/stock th350?

also....I no that a truck is not a muscle car..but im just tryen to get my thread out there for an answer

350 Tranny

I dont think you can even bolt up a TH350 to a 454 unless theres some kind of kit to do it. The TH350 was a small block tranny and I doubt there are bell housings out there to mate up to a 454. But like I said there may be a conversion kit so look around before you do the swap. Good luck. Steve

Re: swaping in a 454 bbc

well the bolt patterns for the block were the same on the v8s...and I know that you can bolt up a th350 to a 454...but I was just worried about the power output of the 454...just a basically stock 454

There is no such thing as big and small block chev trannies, they both use the same bell housing size and pattern

454 swap

don't waste a good bigblock on an s10 it will tear it apart plus you'll have to engineer your whole driveline and exhaust and the first time you go 4 wheelin the turbo 350 will be toast it would be cheaper to rebuild the 400 put in a lumpy cam and save the bigblock for a muscle car project
