opinions on body stylings...

alright as some of u know already i got into an accident with my 95 sl... well insurance wanted to total it and take it and i said no i will fix it myself.... so i am deciding on what to do.. my spoiler broke in half and i took of the 3 mounting pieces and saw what it looks like with out a spoler.... and i like what it looks like without one... now idk if anyone here has no spoiler on there 3k but i was wondering what u all thought of it....just picture urs without 1 and give me a response... second my driver side door has a decent size dent that needs to be taken out... so i was thinking y not pull them both of and shave the door handles also.... my father is a very good welder and said he would take over the job.... but i wanted some feedback on what everyone thinks it may look like.... and the last thing i can think of at this point in time.... i recently picked up an issue of modified mag...its the january issue of it... and it has an s14 with a buetiful orange color... i have seen a couple cars this color and was wondering what everyone thought of a 3k in this orange color....idk just looking for some input from u all... thanks

Let insurance total thje car. They wil pay you for the value of the car. You can then buy the whole car back from insurance for a small amount of money. You will end up ahead in the long run.

Yup yup, but depending on state laws you may not be able to title it again. It would then have a salvage title.

Re: Re: opinions on body stylings...

Most states, at least all the ones I ever lived in, once you buy the car back you can fix it and make it "roadworthy" again if you want to put it back on the road. Once its fixed, you have it inspected by some DMV person and they deem it worthy. Then you can get s Restructered title, ie a R-title. If thats the route you want to take you need to contact the DMV to see what you need to do and what info you need to keep.

No spoiler on a light colored 3000gt doesnt look good to me, but it doesnt look bad either.
If you car is fairly dark colored, I kinda like the look.

Re: opinions on body stylings...

Trust me when I tell you that you are going about this all wrong. What are you like 18? Don't think I am coming down on you because you are a little bit younger but I have been around cars for a long long time. If you total it out you're probalby looking at around 7k from insurance. You will then use probably less that 1k to "Buy it back" You now have 6k to fix the car right. Its not super hard and if you plan on keeping the car then the R-title wont hurt you one bit.

As for your questions, replace the door. It has so much contour to it that it will never look right again. My dad is an awesome body man and wouldnt even touch my door after a run-in with a deer as I didnt expect him too. As for shaving the handles, you live in Wisconsin, I wouldnt do it. Cold weather has a bad habit of messing with door poppers. What will you do if your door wont open because the popper is froze up? As for the spoiler, every 3k I have seen without a spoiler doesnt look right. It looks like funky Stealth actually. Some Stealths can pass off the no wing look, but because of the 3k's quarter windows it doesnt look right IMO. As for the color, orange might look alright. But realize that an all over color change will cost a good amount of money from any type of shop. You have to have the door jams and under the hood done and thats extra money.

Do you realize how expensive candy style paint jobs are?? Your talking close to $5k in most cases, especially since it will be an all over job.

Re: opinions on body stylings...

as for your insurance company...you should tell them to pay you as much as they feel for the damge...which shouldnt be to bad...then take that money and put it into your car, and the other money they owe you....The same thing happened to me like a month ago..they wanted to total it...and i said no..so they did an estimate and paid me for that...no i got a full body kit, and a sick Cf hood...and still have 1700 left....i have to do the body work thou....my dad does awesome body work Just a thought tho
