I know this should not be in here, but my winter beater needs help!!!

i am hoping my fellow dsm people can help me here, i posted in dodge but no replys in almsot 2 days.

Ok here is the deal, my 95 dodge neon winter beater needs help!!! it starts up very hard first of all, you have to crank at least 5 to 6 times before it starts, when idling it idles ruff, when you give it a little gas it clears up but when you give it to much gas it sputters bad like its miss firing, also when you go to put it in reverse it almost dies. Sputters going down the road also only if you try to give alot of gas, Spark plugs and wires are brand New, it did this prob before new wires and plugs so thats out of the picture for defect.

you said the car was a winter car... have you started it since last winter? i had a problem similar to this when i fixed and old Honda motorcycle. the problem was that the gas had settled in the bottom of the tank and the top was just watery. i had to drain the tank adn use paint thinner to get the shit at the bottom of the tank out. if your going to park your car and dont plan to start it for a few months, they sell bottles of this stuff called 'Stabil' which you dump into your gas tank before you store it. hope this helped, if you have anyquestions, let me know.

Re: I know this should not be in here, but my winter beater needs help!!!

could it of jumped timing? i tried the key code thing but nothing comes up, i think the check engine light is out or blown, cuz no check engine light comes on when you 1st turn key on. runs fine for a sec then idles ruff when idling, if you bring the rpms up slow, you can bring them all the way to 5 grand np but if you give it to much gas it sputters bad like miss firing, i cannot figure it out and man i dont want to drive my Talon all winter even tho it would go sweet being AWD, but thats not the point

ok i took the vavle out of the fuel rail and put a hose on it in a soda bottle, when i turn the key on only maybe an 1/8 of a cup of fuel comes out. Should it be more? fuel filter or fuel pump?

here is another thing, i tried turning it over with the hose in the bottle, it starts to pump fuel that way, but not if thats right, i thought it should kick on for like 3 sec in the run position also, not sure how much fuel it should be pumping while im cranking
