Grand Am AC FUSE BLOWS PLEASE HELP!!

Hello to everyone on this forum

Ok, I got this problem.

My AC fuse keeps blowing out. I'll drive the car for about a few minutes and the fuse will blow. If am in a stand still and I gas the car the fuse does not blow. Only when am in motion.

While the fuse is blown I feel heat coming through the air vents when I have the nob turned on for heat, and cold air coming from the vents when I have it turned the nob to cold.

The fan stops working on my car.

I took the car to a mechanic and he tells me that it is a battery problem. (my battery was completely dry) So I believed him. I took it out of the shop and the fuse blows. I drive to Kragens and pick up some number 25 fuse and get myself a new battery. Next day I put the new battery in with the fuse soon as I leave my parking lot, roughly heading 20mph the fuse blows again.

I have been through about 20 fuses already.

So I take the car back the the mechanic back today. When I got home back from work, my roommate tells me that the AC control unit is busted (he is unsure of the exact name) and that it cost 150 dollars and needs to be replaced.

Does that sound reasonable? I would think it is not finding a ground, and I haven't checked yet.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give me any feed back as much as possible. Am just stressing out.

P.S. last thing done to my car was an oil filter.

This sounds like a reasonable explanation for the problem you indicated. Usually fuses will only blow if there is a problem in the electrical system that is causing an overdraw of current. If the AC control unit is bad this could indeed cause the problem. As far as the cost to repair that is reasonable although that may just be for the part. I would get a true quote from the mechanic to see what his labor charges are going to be. This could end up costing a lot more money if you fail to pin him down.

I had a similar problem with my grand prix. I found that it was two bare wires that control the cooling fans that were rubbing against each other. I just taped them with electrical tape and it never happened again. They are probably touching one another when you drive causing it to short.
