Another odd Swap question
Ok the d15a7 didnt look that good...
Sooo... Will a ZC SOHC head fit a z6 block? I found a Port&Polished ZC head with 15k for $100 and a Rebuilt, not assembled z6 block for $100 Or could I use a a6 block? I dont want the ZC block due to CALI smog... Just need to know if it will work? I have obd0 CRX and dont really want to go VTEC due to expense but need a new motor in my beater. Thanks! |

Re: Another odd Swap question
someone correct me if i'm wrong, but the ZC SOHC is a D16A6 w/ a better cam in it. SOOO, if that is tru, then either block should work fine. for ease of mating i'd go w/ the A6 block because it's the same as wut that head was on before. also the oil jets deal; they rn't in the Z6 block, but they r in the A6 block.

Re: Another odd Swap question
That is what I though.
I was looking the z6 because it is supposedly rebuild but not used!? He rebuilt it to have a spare but never used it and then went DOHC. Now selling cheaper then I could get a a6 block and rebuild it. Well that is the story anyways.... Interesing that the z6 doesnt have the oil jets, since it was built with high rev VTEC in mind... So the ZC is the same head? I though that it was a better flowing head with the same cam, but a different cam explains that too. Thanks |

Re: Another odd Swap question
I guess that they figure that the head needs more oil then the pistons?
Tickle down threoy... The thing is im not racing it, it is my regular driver to school and back. So that is not that big a deal in the long run as the regular d15 get away without. Thanks |

Re: Another odd Swap question
Ok I got the z6 block and a z6 head and a bunch of parts for $100.
The block was not rebuilt, but pistons take out and cylinders honed, kinda sucks... The guy decided to drop a LS motor insted... Everything looks very good, 120k on motor. Anyhooo... As for my reverse swap I was thinking (I know I that is dangerous) that If I drop a ZC head on the z6 I might lose compression? I know that a Mini-Me you gain compression conversly I should lose in the reverse. Looking a the combustion chamber they look about the same cc, any one have any idea what will happen? Thanks |

Re: Another odd Swap question
Never mind I found a good calc that gave me the answers.
Noooo good....8.1 comp...Good for turbo I guess....Crap, oh well I guess that I go VTEC Anyone have a cheap obd0 to obd1 harness? 92-95 EX ECU for manual? Anyone know if you could use a D16Y8 2-layer head gasket on a z6. The thickness is less then the z6 and according to the calc it will pickup as much as 0.23 compression? Almost to 9.4cr (9.37vs9.14) Thanks... |

Re: Another odd Swap question
A bit far for me to drive...
Im almost as far as I could get from PA... Im in NorCal, Santa Cruz... Thanks tho... I want to do the VTEC deal now. More cash but I will be happy with more power! I got the head at the shop now, cleaned up and then back to me for a mild port and polish and then back for assembly. Block checked out good, gonna fly with it as is. But I need a cheap 92-95 EX ECU. and a obd0 to obd1 harness. Anyone hook me up? You know it is funny I just read your signature and it looks like you have the same SCCA air box mod (ghetto) with K&N. I chopped the front side of the box addeded some plastic from a DX box and even have the OEM hood snorkel hooked up. Looks stock. But, I chopped a bigger hole in the front lower sheet metal and cut the bottom off the lower resonator and a bigger hole in the top. I used that extra plastic to create a scoop under the front bumper. Ghetto'ed me a bigger pipe between the box and intake from some bigger hose from home depot. Looks good but I put the PM6 back when I have to smog. RamAir setup on the free. Works great! |
