cold starting

I have a 96 s-10 4.3 . It won't seem to start cold, but once I get it sarted it runs fine. I let the fuel pump cycle through a couple of times and it will start , but not acceptable. It was cold today and even using the aforementioned method,it didn't start very good. The mechanic put the computer on it, but no codes. He is hesitant to just throw parts at it; he wants to wait until it dies.

Any suggestions?

Check the fuel pressure, when was the last time you changed the fuel filter...or... when was the last time a complete tune-up was done?
