2500 Ram backfire/stall low speed

Need advice

My 2500 Ram with 5.9 L V8 will loose power and backfire when cold (mostly) at speeds between 20 and 35. Mechanic has tuned, replaced plug wires, distrib, rotor and crank sensor. Cleaned throttle body etc. No codes show on computer. Manifold gasket on intake tests fine. I really need some direction to go because the mechanics and dealer are baffled. What the heck!
When it is up to speed it is fine. Seems to be fine sometimes at low speeds, but when cold it does this. I can't get it to do this for mechanic.

Really Frustrated

The other day I drove it to a nearby town, 30 minutes. It ran great the way there, but on the way back on a hill at 45mph it started coughing and loosing power again. That is the first time it has happened at speeds greater than 30-35. Could it be a plugged cat? If so, why so sporadic? This thing is driving me crazy! (My mechanic is starting to think I am as well. I even called the Tappit Brothers.

I have same problem on my 96 Ram Van. Loses power and backfires. Seems to do it when it is cold and low fuel. My mechanic is stumped also. I've posted on the Ram Van site and so have some others on the same problem.

Has anyone figured this out yet?

If you sit with the truck running in neutral, and you rev the motor, does it only want to rev so much? Can you rev it easily clear to the redline?

Bleed, he said it's ok on the highway, so maybe not the cat? It sounds like a fuel delivery problem, I'd check the fuel filter and maybe the pump.

Mechanic reflashed the computer to adjust transmission shift points and this seems to have solved the problem. This is available under warranty and should have been done anyway according to them. The thing was dumping the tranny into overdrive at 30 mph instead of 50+. That must have caused the backfire and loss of power. What ever happened to the good old days? I miss my '74 International truck!

That's the problem with electronically controlled automatic transmissions. Give me a hydraulically controlled 727 or manual any day.

lol how do i get my computer reflashed? my tranny wont go into reverse and i dont know where to get the computer flashed. the dodge dealer doesnt even know how

hey is it a stick, if it is when is it backfiring? mine backfires when i rev it up and the rmps go back down, and also sometimes when i downshift. im sure the backfiring is fine but the other problem i dont know what to say.

my throttle body sensor looked fryed the wires were black cuz of the back fire
