Radiator spew

Hey, awesome site.

Well, I have a 91 240, and it sat outisde for like 1 month without being driven. Got kinda mad after I changed the starter and it was just the relay What a waste of money. Anyways, I started driving it again yesterday, and somehow pressure is getting backed up, and antifreeze is coming out at the cap. If I drive it about 1 mile I lose like half of the liquid inside. Sux to be me.

Just wondering if U guys have any ideas on what it could be. I was about to change the thermostat, but can it cause pressure to back up like that?

The car has NEVER gone above the normal temperature before today, it want to like 3/4 of the way up when I went on the freeway, probably because it was low on antifreeze.

I hope its just the thermostat, I really don't want to change the water pump, but whatever it takes.

Thanks in advance.

if you have coolant spewing out of hte radiator cap. then you should change the cap. if there is no sign of over heating then its not causing higher pressure.

if you had coolant boiling over into your reservior tank, then your overheating. i would change the thermostat in that situation.

Re: Radiator spew

I did change the cap. But nothing changed, forgot to say that The first time it came out of the reservior, maybe it got plugged. Since then reservior is not full, just comes from the cap.

Guess I'll just change the thermostat, tx

nice sig btw

Re: Radiator spew

if you already changed the cap and its still coming out of it then check the spout where you put the coolant in.. there might be something wrong with that..

Re: Radiator spew

err... U'r right D-Bo, I didn't even check where the fluid was coming out of... guess I just assumed it was the cap, since its coming out so fast.

Being Stupid. I'll do it tomorow and pull the thermostat out. thanks.

Re: Radiator spew

Well, checked it out, and there is a 4 inch crack in the top of the radiator... I didn't even need to start it, poured some water in and it just comes right back out LMAO.

I put straight water in the resivoir, and I think it got sucked into the top of the radiator, and then froze. How stupid, I've always used water in the resivoir, now I know. Always assumed it would mix and would be all good. Well, thanks again.

Now to find a cheap radiator
