P/A fuel leak

daughters roommate driving p/a last night when they heard a loud pop like "something hit them" my guess is backfire? then someone told them that gas was leaking from their car. Am going to check vehicle as roommate doesn't have any family nearby that can help. Any ideas? Police asked if they had any enemies(?) My thought is if vehicle is fi that pump may have blown line? Tried to get info on vehicle all I know is it is a Park Ave Maybe a 1992. Dealing with classic blones though. Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

They Probably hit something in the road. That would explain the pop, and gas leak. they is no way to shoot a gas tank without the car being lifted or someone being under the car.. the only other thing is a bad gas tank that the welds popped. Look under the car and go from there.. My guess, they hit something.
