Windshield Washer Pump

My washer pump quit me the other day and I was wondering if there is a fuse that controls it (2001 Le Sabre).

The owners manual shows only a fuse for the wipers (they work) at least as far as I can find. I cannot detect a blown fuse as of yet. It is too darn cold outside to really get serious and any help to speed up the process would be appreciated.

The reservoir is full and the motor does not come on at all.

I am trying to save a garage fee if it is just a fuse that I can change.

if you don't hear any type of noise coming from it then the power wire for it might be broken or the pump took a dump, you can get those fairly cheap at junkyards...I'd check with a meter if its getting power and if so change the pump, but if not look for a fuse. Invest in a chiltons manual, best buy for your buck. It's at auto parts stores (checkers, kragen, etc.) don't buy a haynes though because they make the same manual for 20 different cars and they're useless anyways

Unhappy It works! (I think)....

In my previous post I mentioned that it was too cold outside to spend much time looking for the source of the problem.

Over the weekend I travelled to a warmer climate and it started working again. I thought I flushed enough of the new cleaning solution (-34 degrees) through but maybe not. After I came back home and back into the cold (I'm talking about 15 degrees for a daytime high) it quit again. Now I'm going to have to find a warm garage for awhile for another thaw.

If that don't work then I'll take your advice gr8tylor and thank you for it.

Re: Windshield Washer Pump

When the weather is that cold, you should use straight undiluted windshield washer fluid. If it's really cold, I swear I've seen some that have some kind of antifreeze component to keep them from freezing up. (Whereas normal antifreeze just contains a lot of methenol, which has a lower freezing point than water.)
