fipk k&n vs injen intake

I met a guy that works in a performance parts/shop store, he said he only work on dsm (most of the people around my area work only on hondas) so we started talking and he said that he just turbo a rs, I asked him if that was more expensive than selling and rs and buy an gst or gsx, he responded no, that it was acually cheaper. Then I asked what turbo he installed, he said a 14b......anyways, we started talking about different parts and different brands and prices........He said he only works with high quality products.....so when we started talking about intakes, I mentioned the K&N fipk for $129, and he said that he never heard of a fipk.........so we look it up on the web and he checked out.....and well he said that it'll be better off with a injen intake (which cost almost twice as the k&n fipk and it'll replace the same part) because of it's high quality and is dyno proved, while on the other hand the fipk is just another piece of plastic and if I wanted to replace plastic for plastic no good......... shall I listen to this guy and let him work on my car?......or shall I find somebody else?

Re: fipk k&n vs injen intake

IMO, the guy is an idiot. All intakes are approximately the same in performance...if he hasn't ever heard of K&N then he has no place working in a performance shop. period.

Any $30 ebay intake will work just as well as his 'dyno proven injen intake'. The only difference is the quality of the filter...K&N produces the best filters hands down...so if you can get a FIPK for half the price of Injen, then there is no question...get the FIPK.

Re: fipk k&n vs injen intake

He hasn't ever heard of FIPK and he only works on dsms... Doesn't sound right to me.

Here's a couple of different dyno tests for a 1g with FIPK.

This one is just FIPK

This one is FIPK with boost controller

Ok... I just posted those without looking at them. Do they make sense? They look kinda confusing to me, and I can usually figure them out.

that guy is an idiot. hafl the reason why K&n and injen are so expensive is because you are paying for the names. aslo on the top of hte filter they have a little chrome piece which add like 30 bucks and they come with the pieces you need to hold hte filter upright so it doesnt sagg. go on ebay and look for a maf adaptor and buy a k&n filter seperate for like 30 bcuks or off summitracing.com for like 25. then just make a piece that supports it upright because it will sagg. the sagging probably isnt that bad if you just check your clamps all the time but i personally didnt want hte saggin to pull on my bov recircution tube which might cause a leak.

Well every car has it's own FIPK...I'm not sure of the part number of the 2nd gen dsm FIPK...I believe the 3000gt FIPK part number is #57-1500. These usually retail from $145-180, so if this is what you found for $125, then that is a pretty damn good deal...but like I said, I don't know if they utilize the same FIPK. I'd assume they were different.

I have heard that the K&N Aircharger part #63-1000 made for 2nd gen DSMs can fit the 3000gt, but that part is discontinued last I heard.

So I know I didn't really answer your question, but perhaps some of that will help...

Re: fipk k&n vs injen intake

well any ebay intake wont work as well as a high quality intake like a aem v2 or injen u have to be a dumbass 2 think a 30 dollar intake that prolly doesent even have dyno specs 2 compare with any other intakes, would be better i thought that that was true but its not my mx6 got just as much horse power with the gay ass ebay intake as it did with the stock one then i invested in a aem it was much better.

Intakes are all the same. The ones that are more expensive do the same thing, your just paying for the brand name.

Re: fipk k&n vs injen intake

the k&n fipk for a dsm is just the filter and adapter.

the injen intake is the actual pipe and filter, hence the doubling of the price.

my guess is that he was banking on you not knowing the difference between the two and hoping you'd pay the $$ for the more expensive one.

Re: fipk k&n vs injen intake

From what I saw the Injen intake is about $100 more than doing FIPK and pipe separately. For N/T $180 for injen.

Re: fipk k&n vs injen intake

The FIPK is just a filter, MAS adapter, and cleaning stuff I believe.

We are comparing a filter to an intake pipe here, there is no comparison. I would recommend a cheap intake pipe and a K&N filter, does the brand of metal pipe really convince anyone that it's better or "dyno proven?"
