Angry '93 gauge problems

Oil gauge bars will drop to 1 bar while driving setting off an annoying beeping. Hitting the dash makes it come back up to 4. Happens more when the weather is hot. Have been told this is a common problem with this model year and there's no way to unhook lights or alarm to only one gauge. Totally aggravating having to beat the dashboard all the time! Any suggestions?

O.k.....running into the same prob....Am having the same thing, plus the Spedo is dropping out also when the car warms up....this is my 1st Ford product, so I'm learning as I go...just did a motor swap, as the 3.8 was trashed when I bought it...have the sending unit directly grounded to fool the gauge into thinking that it has full oil pressure, but that hasn't cured it....it's not a bad ground to the motor, because I added an extra ground wire to the motor, thinking that I might have missed one during the engine change, but it's still doing what you described...my next plan is to tear the dash apart this weekend and check the contacts going into the display, as that seems to be the next step...will let you know how it turns out. (the speedo prob seems to be a separate item, because when I bang on the dash, the oil pressure gauge goes up, but it doesn't affect the speedo...that seems to be more of a problem with the VSS sending unit on the tranny (does Ford use the term VSS for the speed sending unit like GM?), though when it drops out, the car lacks the power that it normally has...but I don't get a "check engine" light, which would normally happen on a GM product if it wasn't receiving a VSS signal from the tranny) Any experiences with this prob would be greatly appreciated!

Oil Guage Problem

I have the same problem. It never happened until after I had an aftermarket stereo put in. I pulled the dash trim off and a connector WAS loose, plugged it back in and buttoned it up. worked fine for a day then BAM same low pressure reading. I'm gonna go under and see if it might be the sending unit (where is the sending unit located anyway?) will post again after I take a look.
