This is the deal:
I seem to have an electrical problem when driving this car. When I push the power window buttons the headlights dim!! Also when I am driving on the highway, the headlights will dim and the speedometer "sweeps" down and then builds back up to the speed I was cruising at. Any suggestions?? Any info would be helpful!!! Larry. |

Re: 2000 Taurus electrical problem...
I would point toward a bad alternator. It sound like it is not putting out the correct voltage. But make sure to check your belt, clean and tighten the battery cables, and make sure the battery can hold a charge. These can all cause problems also. If i remember right Autozone can bench test the battery and alternator.

Also when starting the car it sometimes hesitates....and makes a high pitched "squeal"...before it starts up. Could this be alternator related?

The squeal could be alternator related, or the belt could be wearing down. If the belt has not been changed in a while, go ahead and change it with a good one when changing the alternator. I has to come off anyway. Gatorback is a good belt.
