Angry Broken Door on a 99 bird

Hey all
On a recently purchased 99 Firebird I experience some water/air leak on the back portion of the drivers side door. Also noticed what appeared to be an alignment issue with the Drivers door....very slight and could only notice when closing.

Discovered that the whole front portion of the door is cracked in the location of the hinges???? Plastic doors and no steel reinforcement? Any suggestions at a fix other than a new door...which is what I am considering. Car is otherwise in perfect condition and the cause of the door problems is a complete mystery.....possible someone slapped the brakes on going 60...with the door open...plastic doors, go figure????

Ed

I would probably just replace the door...unless you feel like trying to fiberglass onto the plastic...what probably happened was some fat ass leaned on the door with all their weight while it was open getting in or out and it cracked.

Re: Broken Door on a 99 bird

What happens is that someone opened the door too hard or the wind caught the door and it cracked the seam of the door apart. They do sell a special fiberglass epoxy that you can reseam the door but I can't remember the name off hand. I do have some because I had to do the same on my '99. If you leave the door on the car it is easier to remove the front fender and I cracked the door ajar so I could jack up a little presure under the door to take out the sag befor I clamped it together to let the epoxy dry.

Re: Broken Door on a 99 bird

the fourth gens will all slowly do that too.i believe that to be a design flaw.Whoever said "hey lets glue the doors on it" needs a head exam.i would drill it,bolt it,and reinforce it with a steel plate.if you do your car will be the only 99' with doors here in another ten years or so
