Question Paradise by the dashboard light?.stupid question

Hi all
Newbie first time poster....with the most stupid question ever. I have just bought an '89 YJ and its the first jeep I have owned...what is the red forward facing arrow light that keeps coming on and off trying to tell me?
Sorry for being stupid.

Shift light

It's telling you to shift. European cars started putting in shift indicators to tell people when they should shift to get the best fuel mileage in the 70s. My TJs have them, too. I don't pay attention to it, and I will disconnect it the next time I have my dash apart.
