changing plugs?

My daughter has a 99 galant and the plugs need to be changed, I've never really done much work on these engines. I thought I could just change them out like any normal plugs. But at closer inspection I see that I cannot get to the back 3 plugs. Is it my understanding that you have to take the blasted intake off to do this? Who ever heard of such a thing? I've been working on american V8s all my life and this is not cool. Is it much trouble to do this? And what all is involved in the process? Thank you for your time.

I have only worked on the european/japanese spec 2.5 V6. I'm assuming you are talking about the 3.0l?

On the 2.5 litre engine, if you remove the bolts for the intake manifold you create enough movement to change the rear plugs. The manifold then does not have to be completely removed.

I guess the big difference between this and american V8 cars is front wheel drive rather than rear? Transverse mount rather than longitudinal? There is a fair bit crammed under the bonnet and the design is not brilliant. Again, not being sure, but if your headlights are the same as UK models, wait until you have to change a bulb!
