Re: 1/4 mile for 300zx TT

Thats interesting, so the VR4 is faster in the 1/4 mile? I guess it has to do with the fact that its AWD, whats the torque and at what RPM is it reached on the 300? Its 215 @ 2500 on the second gen VR4 and the same on the first gen with the free boost mod.

yeah those are expected times with a good driver. but i read an article with a professional driver that tested the 1/4 mile performance of all the import monster's of the early 90's except the GTR.

-he got the supra to run a 13.1
-he got the vr4 and the 300zx to run a 13.6 (he must have launched that 300zx almost perfect to get it to keep up with AWD launch of the VR4)
-i forget what the rx7 ran but it was also in the 13's.
-the subaru SVX ran a mid 14 maybe. i cant remember exactly.
-he had the nsx on there too but i dont remember reading much about it.

ill have to dig up that article. he went through each car, detail by detail, pointing out weak spots and strong spots and his personal opinions on the interiors and styling.

300ZX AT TT will run around mid to high 14s if I remember it right..... seen one in Pheonix AZ bone stock with AT TT on street tires hit 14s mid-high range.

Re: 1/4 mile for 300zx TT

IT was with a guy who had little experaince driving the AT version, he was driving his freinds Z, while his was in the shop (backed into by Jeep Cherokee). He had no clue what to try and launch at, and it showed. His best time if I remember was a 14.34ET He spun the tires off the line but hooked up after about 10ft. Didnt matter he killed the Civic that he was lined up against..... the guys civic looked good but was SLOW. Althought the car that stands out the most in my memory is the Hybrid Civic that was running high 10s all night on its electric/gas engine.

I saw that. He had 10,000 AA batteries in the trunk.

Re: 1/4 mile for 300zx TT

haha, no.

The biggest let down of the evening was a white Supra TT that died on the line, the driver a older geeky looking guy loaded the clutch and well it didnt like it.... so that 2JZ blew pieces of the clutch and bell housing across the track.

yeah because i have seen stock AT TT times as low as 13.9 posted. but when your talking about a TT 15 year old car, there is bound to be some discrepencies. plus track conditions, condition of the car, and air temp all play an important role on 1/4 mile times. obviously...

maybe not as much fun but they are just as fast as the manual. dont make a msitake in your manual or else that "slushy" will fly right by your ass.

no but seriously, what most people dont consider with automatics is that they hold the boost in turboed cars. so it gains time on a manual everytime the driver lets off the gas a little to push the clutch in on a manual. there not much slower than people think, if slower at all.

but yeah...they arent as much fun, i agree. but build a shift kit for a 300zx auto tranny and that 5-speed can kiss its ass good-bye.
