2002 Passat - Dead Remote

Hello everyone,

I have a remote (opens door, locks door, opens trunk)that has stopped working. I managed to open the case and expected to see an obvious battery but didn't. I am don't see how to further open the piece to get at a battery. Can anyone help? Is there a release button or something that I should be pressing that will open a battery compartment?
